We usually write informational blogs highlighting the importance of smart technology features, tips, or generally useful content related to the industry. This time, though, we’d like to tell you about a project we’re proud of that won the 2017 Lutron Excellence Award for “Best Specialty Project.”

We’ve completed a lot of projects that incorporate a Lutron lighting system in the Guilford, CT area and beyond. This one though was special due its scale, customization, and results.

As you may already know, Lutron is one of our trusted brand partners. That is why we decided to work with them when teaming up with a common collaborator of ours to upgrade the mixing room in their recording studio. This installation features state of the art recording technology alongside the creative lighting design that Lutron made possible.

The Mixing Room 

The mission was to create an ambiance that enabled creativity and delivered elegance, where artists would feel empowered and in control.

We utilized a seven button designer keypad at the entry, a 15 button tabletop keypad, and a tablet with the Lutron Home+ app. These control solutions made the mixing room operative and useful with specially curated lighting scenes to create a truly unique atmosphere.

We wrapped the room in hundreds of feet of RGBW LED Flex Strip lighting, noise-dampening walls, and other technology.

With nearly an unlimited amount of colors available and easy programming, a Lutron QSE-CI-DMX controls the color changes. We programmed various scenes to deliver a range of lighting options, color variations, and moods. This allows the artist to set the right aesthetic in order to match ambiance needed for the current work.

We also used Cooledge Tile Tunable White LED sheets to create illuminated glass customized workstations, with luminous surfaces and lighting options.

The Takeaway

Lutron’s HomeWorks QS provides the right amount control and programming to create the most efficient and customized environment. We know that when that environment is right, the artist can truly get in the zone and complete their work.

This project is our way of showcasing the power of smart technology and the role it can play in inspiring creativity.
